Some people get their groove on, me I get my Theme on. Good gosh, I do love me a good theme.
What makes it even better is when I have an idea for a theme and somehow just magically comes together.
When I first opened the cafe I decorated for every holiday and it was a blast.
I am not sure exactly when I stopped, but it was somewhere during the time of my mother’s battle with Alzheimers , more about that later, and it had been years since I had really cared.
So, this week, I was at the cafe and all of a sudden I wanted to decorate for Halloween! I actually was excited. Then I got excited because I was excited and well, anyway, I wandered up to the attic to see what had been left over from Halloweens of the past.
The attic at the cafe is not your normal attic. Spoons Cafe is on the first floor and the “attic” is a middle floor that hangs between the 1st floor and 2nd floor. This middle floor is home to our extra stock, decorations, a whole lot of my miscellaneous treasures and it is SPOOKY.
To crank up the spook factor the historic Collin County Jail is located directly behind the cafe!
Plus, rumor has it that downtown McKinney has its fair share of ghosts hanging around. We even have our very own Ghost Walk the 2 last Saturdays in October.
Whenever something mysterious happens in the cafe we kinda kiddingly say, ” it must have been one of the ghosts!” and believe me, none of us like hanging out there late at night alone.
So, I am standing there in the attic, looking at the tub of pitiful Halloween decorations and think, time for a new theme.
I need a theme. All of a sudden I heard “GHOST”, what? “GHOOOOST”. Oh my gosh, we would decorate Spoons in “GHOST”. Is that genius or what?
I was on it. I had my theme and now I was off on my own personal Ghost hunt.
It was late when I left the cafe and I thought I would just swing by the local Michaels. I didn’t even bother to get a basket. I just went right over to the Halloween Aisle. There he was, one little lonesome ghost that looked exactly like I had envisioned my ghost to look. He would be perfect for Spoons Selfie Spot and he was 50% off! The only problem was there was just one. I needed a bunch to make this happen.
Then I turned the corner and there they were just waiting for me, hundreds of ghosts, all 50% off!
I almost couldn’t breathe. I walked as quickly as I could and grabbed the 1st empty basket I found, sorry if that was your basket I stole, but I had to got back to the ghost aisle before all MY ghosts disappeared.
Add a few spiders and spider web’s and Spoons Cafe is ready for Halloween.
Spoon’s Cafe’s Selfie Spot is even spookified for Halloween!
If you want to make your own ghost this is an awesome video on making your own ghost!
Stay tuned for Christmas, it is going to be SPECTACULAR!
